The following entry was made in the CISC 101 News Forum in Moodle on Monday, January 17th.

If you are happily registered in the lab immediately following your tutorial (i.e., your tutorial and lab section letters are identical) then please disregard this message. Otherwise it is vital that you read the following announcement.

It appears that a significant number of students can not be registered in matching tutorial and lab sections due to course conflicts. The best situation for any student in CISC 101 is to interact with a single TA. This approach produces consistent administration and grading (e.g., no conflicting information from your tutorial TA and lab TA) and better rapport. The registration process usually enforces this rule; it did not on this occasion.

Students in different lab and tutorial sections may encounter administration and grading issues that students in identical sections may avoid. If you wish to take CISC 101 but require different lab and tutorial sections then you need to be aware of this issue and decide whether you still wish to take the course.

Students will no longer be automatically placed in the same lab section as their current tutorial section. If you choose to take CISC 101 with different lab and tutorial sections then you acknowledge that the chances of administrative or grading issues are higher but you have decided to keep your current lab and tutorial arrangement anyway.

If you wish to be placed in identical lab and tutorial sections, please contact Irene LaFleche (irene@cs.queensu.ca), the Undergraduate Program Assistant in the School of Computing with your name and student number. Irene will not be responding to emails resulting from the last announcement regarding labs and tutorials due to the sheer volume of messages.
