Grading Scheme

20%Labs (10 @ 2% each; there are 12 labs of which only your best 10 count)
80%Quizzes (4 @ 20% each)

Notes:

  • I use an automated email service to distribute grades on request. A link to this system will appear on the Notes page when it is ready for use.
  • Any question having to do with grades is to be directed to the instructor, and NOT to a TA.
  • All labs and quizzes submitted in this course will receive numerical grades (the labs are out of 2, the quizzes out of 40). The final grade you receive for the course will be established by converting your number grade to a letter grade according to the Faculty of Arts and Science Policy on Grading.
  • Requests for additional work to boost an unsatisfying grade will be denied.
  • Some labs are likely to take longer than other labs to complete. It is assumed that you will arrive punctually for a lab. If you arrive late, you may find that
    • You can't find a lab partner,
    • Insufficient time remains in the lab for you to complete your work, or
    • Everyone who did arrive punctually has completed his or her work and have left, along with the instructor and TAs.
None of these situations is desireable. The second and third will result in grades of 0 on the affected labs, and for labs requiring group work, the first may as well.

Consult the Frequently Asked Questions page for the answers to other questions you might have about grading, the format of quizzes, etc.
